Good but not as centered around fashion as you would think.

Not sure what to think about this one. It was OK but centered around Manchester and Liverpool and not the early years of Casual but the 80's. Decent book but not a focused on fashion as it leads one to believe.

I think there are better football/hooligan style books out there. Like I said it is OK, good history of the fashion and how fast it was moving through the fans at the time, but doesn't really keep you locked in. I can put it down and pick it up later without feeling like I am missing it.

About the Author

Born in 1265 in Florence, from which he was banished in 1302, dying in Ravenna in 1321, Dante set the Divine Comedy in the year 1300, when he was thirty-five years old and 'in the middle of our mortal life'. The setting allows him to utilise the past symbolically, exploit the present politically, and anticipate the future in simulated prophecy.

The Commedia throughout reflects his love for 'Beatrice' whom he first saw at a young age in a church in Florence, and who came to represent for him Intellectual and Spiritual Beauty. The story of his love for her, her early death, and his inspiration to write the Commedia are told in his prose work La vita nuova, The New Life, of 1294.

While never returning to Florence after his banishment, the city remained a crucial focus of his thoughts and memories, and while eating the 'bitter bread' of exile his meditations on that city, on Beatrice, and on the moral challenges of his age, led as he had promised in The New Life, to this great work, of explanation, aspiration, and ultimately spiritual exaltation.

Great version

I've always wanted to read Dante's Divine Comedy but felt intimidated by its large cast of characters. This version is great with its easily accessed footnotes that describe them. The book has lots of beautiful illustrations too. A great read and a great value.

Makes Dante fun and easy to read!

I just finished Inferno out of the trilogy. I am so happy that I found Kline's prose translation! I have tried to read Dante previously but never got very far because I would get lost in the poetry (glazed eye syndrome, lol). But this version was so accessible that I couldn't stop reading :). I have the Kindle and paperback versions and both are excellent. The Kindle version has clickable links to the extensive footnotes and the paperback conveniently lists the page with the footnotes. Both have Dore's incredible illustrations, which enhance the story nicely. I plan on buying more books translated by Kline as it is such an enjoyable experience.

The Anthony S. Kline edition is written as prose instead of poetry and for that reason is more easily accessible to the modern reader. Having previously read the Cary and Longfellow translations, I really appreciate this edition.

The Best Book on how to build a world-class computing environment

I’ve been an IT Executive for the past 40+ years. My focus has always been on People, Processes and Technology and in that order. When discussing High Availability most IT professionals gravitate towards the technology for solutions as their primary focus, which is understandable, after all Technology makes the headlines. However, if the people and processes are not involved in the equation high availability will nothing but a pipe dream, which will never attained.

High Availability IT Services covers the entire spectrum of people, services, processes, security and tools required to build a ‘world-class’ computing environment. It is the most thorough book on high availability I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading and I’ve read many.

Both very detailed and broad approach to the subject. Not limited to the more traditional infrastructure based look at high availability, but also focusing on software, processes and what the author calls 'liveware' (the human factor in impacting high availability), all together meaning the end user perspective: the IT service as experienced by the user.
The numerous references throughout the book to other resources, as well as real life examples, give additional value.
Not always an easy read in the theoretical parts, but the author adds a healthy amount of humor and regularly repeats some of the content to make it stick better into memory.
If you want to find out why the strenght of a chain is actually weaker than its weakest part, read this book.

An Overview of Semirigid Connections in Steel Construction

For the longest time, joints were treated as pinned or rigid. Neither extreme is, strictly-speaking, usually applicable to reality, and recent trends in engineering have factored the semi-rigidity of connections. Steel semirigid connections can have most of the properties of rigid connections, yet affect a savings of weight.

The term "semirigid connections" actually spans a large range of stiffness. The least-stiff steel-to-steel semirigid connection I found in this book (p. 266) had a kNm/rad value of 1,410. This corresponds to Z=1.0X10(E-6). Other semirigid joints are 10-60 times stiffer than this.

In this book, there is a balance between theory and practical application. Joint strength, ductility, fatigue behavior, etc., are considered. A software CD-rom is included.

This work is limited to semirigid joints in steel connections. Timber mortise-and-tenon joints also exhibit semirigid properties, albeit at 10-100 times less rigidity than the least-stiff semirigid steel connections. It is hoped that a future edition of this book will include discussion of semirigid joints in timber engineering.

It's amazing the way Mr Faella describes the steel connections on this book, showing the real structural mechanism in the connections. I guess it more suitable for researchers and advanced users. For most cases the use of the standards rigid or pinned(Shear or moment) connections will drive to acceptables solutions.

Hard to find title, excellent info

This is chocked full of wonderful information that is still relevant all of these years later. It is easy to read, not like your average text or subject book that bores you to death. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in mining or in geology 101. The pages have been scanned and some are hard to read but not impossible and it doesn't deter from the subject at all. I give this an A+. So far, on my quest to be more knowledgeable about mining and the earth's crust and what in the world these rocks I love are made of and mean....I am much more smarter for having read this old book than anything else out there other than Geology for DUMMIES!
