Acting One/Acting Two, by Robert Cohen

The new, fifth edition of Robert Cohen's Acting One, the text used to teach acting on more campuses than any other, has now been combined for the first time with his Acting Two, (the second edition of his previously-titled Advanced Acting). Together, Acting One/Acting Two provides a comprehensive and fully integrated system of all acting, from the most realistic to the most stylized. Part One (Acting One) covers basic skills such as talking, listening, tactical interplay, physicalizing, building scenes, and making powerful acting choices. Part Two (Acting Two) provides a series of exercises that encourage the student actor's self-extension into radically different styles (historical, literary, fantastical) and characterizations; then coaches the student through scenework in a variety of historical periods (Greek, Commedia, Elizabethan, Molire, Restoration, Belle Epoque), as well as modern hyper-realistic theatrical forms such as the theatres of alienation and the absurd, and exemplary recent dramas by Tony Kushner, Margaret Edson, August Wilson and Doug Wright.

fun and easy!
By Joanna Stephanie Medina
Easy to read and even fun! Has quotes from famous actors and actresses from today as well as from long past! Has great exercises that help an actor's progression in the art. The book also explains the reasons behind each exercise in case one is interested in the "whys?" Other than that, it is really an enjoyable read!

Very good tool for Intro to Acting teachers!
By Kathleen M. Kelly
As a novice Intro to Acting teacher, I borrowed this book from my colleague's shelf to assist me with ideas for class. It has a lot of very good ideas for games and strategies for teaching the tools of acting (ojectives, tactics, etc.)! I also find it has some strategies that I find too abstract as a teacher, and I don't think my students would comprehend and work with well. In the end, I have used this book A LOT to assist me with finding my own strategies and processes for teching beginning actors. A great tool for every acting teacher's library!
